Loblaw has a new marketing program for President’s Choice launched with the return of Galen Weston, Chairman and CEO, to the airwaves. They are asking customers to share their feedback and stories, good and bad, about the brand using the hashtag #HeyPC.  They will be active on major social networks: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok in an effort to improve their PC products and the customer experience.

Giant Tiger continues to expand hoping to add 41 stores across the country. They focus on the mid–price point of $10 and up and locate their stores where there is less competition. They haven’t found the right location in the heart of downtown Toronto but surround the suburbs with locations in Brampton, Mississauga, Etobicoke and Scarborough. One of Giant Tiger’s appeals is its assortment of reasonably priced grocery, housewares, apparel, beauty, outdoor gear and kids’ toys and games.

Empire Co. Ltd, parent of Sobeys, continues to grow with the acquisition of Longo’s supermarkets in 2021, and the expansion of Farm Boy across Ontario and Fresh Co. in Western Canada. The family run Longo’s was appealing due to it’s Grocery Gateway delivery service which Empire plans to run simultaneously with their own Voila service as they expand their ecommerce markets.

Walmart has opened a new distribution center in Cornwall, Ontario to service 136 stores from Kingston, Ontario to the East coast of Canada. The $20 million facility has technological advancements that will modernize the fulfillment system and improve accuracy as well as speed and efficiency.
